What is FCL (Full Container Load)?

When shipping goods internationally, you’ll come across two key terms: FCL (Full Container Load) and LCL (Less than Container Load). Let’s dive into what FCL really means and when it's the ideal choice for your business.

What is FCL?

FCL stands for Full Container Load, a shipping method where one shipper occupies the entire container for their cargo. Unlike LCL, which involves sharing space with other consignments, FCL gives you exclusive use of the container—whether or not it’s fully packed.

Benefits of FCL Shipping:

  • Better security – Your goods aren’t mixed with others, reducing the risk of damage or misplacement.

  • Faster transitFCL containers are loaded and unloaded more efficiently.

  • Cost-effective for bulk – If you're shipping large volumes, FCL often works out cheaper per unit than LCL.

When to Use FCL:

  • You’re shipping more than 15–20 CBM (cubic meters) of cargo.

  • You require higher protection for fragile or valuable items.

  • Your goods are time-sensitive, and you want to avoid LCL delays.

Common Container Sizes:

  • 20 ft (≈ 33 CBM)

  • 40 ft (≈ 67 CBM)

  • 40 ft High Cube (≈ 76 CBM)

Choosing FCL is about volume, value, and speed. If your shipment meets those criteria, FCL offers full control and streamlined logistics.

Gxpress provides FCL options for international routes where cargo space, time, and security are key factors.
